The identity of a man who was shot and thrown out of a speeding vehicle in Arima, remained unknown up to late yesterday.

Officers from the Northern Division Task Force received a report of a shooting on Balsam Trace, near Malabar Extension at around 9.50 am and went to the scene where they found the body of a man on the road with a gunshot wound.

Investigators said the man had a charger cord around his neck and two plastic tie straps around his right hand. There were several bruises on the body which police said were likely caused by the impact when he was thrown from a car.

Officers from the Region II Homicide Bureau visited the scene with a district medical officer.

Officers remained at the scene up to midday collecting evidence and canvassing the area for witnesses and footage from surveillance cameras.

Councillor for Malabar South Joycelyn Worrell, who visited the area, said residents reported hearing a single gunshot and the sound of a speeding car before the body was discovered.

“It’s a sad day because I woke up to this morning to the news that someone was murdered. It seems to be a very young person, I can’t confirm but someone told me he may be from Daniel Trace, Trainline.

“We are living in terrible times and crime is beyond our imagination,” she said.

Despite finding out just three days earlier—on December 23—that I had breast cancer, I still got dressed and showed up on December 26, Boxing Day, for a birthday party. I didn’t go to escape the truth. I went to remind myself I was still here, still living, still me.
