Muriel Moore celebrates 102nd birthday

Muriel Moore of Point Fortin cel­e­brat­ed her 102nd to­day and ac­cord­ing to her the se­cret to longevi­ty is “Do good to oth­ers and do every­thing with a good heart.” To cel­e­brate the mile­stone her fam­i­ly host­ed a small cel­e­bra­tion at their home. Of­fi­cials from the Min­istry of So­cial De­vel­op­ment and  the may­or of Point Fortin Saleema Thomas at­tend­ed the cel­e­bra­tions.

The fol­low­ing is a press re­lease from the Min­istry of So­cial De­vel­op­ment:

“Do good to oth­ers and do every­thing with a good heart.” This is the se­cret to longevi­ty ac­cord­ing to Mrs. Muriel Moore, who cel­e­brates her 102nd birth­day to­day, May 20, 2022. To cel­e­brate the sig­nif­i­cant mile­stone, her fam­i­ly host­ed a small cel­e­bra­tion at their Point Fortin home. Mem­bers of the Min­istry’s Di­vi­sion of Age­ing and Cor­po­rate Com­mu­ni­ca­tions and Ed­u­ca­tion Unit were present to cel­e­brate with the fam­i­ly.

Dur­ing the brief event, Mrs. Moore was ho­n­oured as part of the Min­istry of So­cial De­vel­op­ment and Fam­i­ly Ser­vices’ Na­tion­al Cen­te­nar­i­an Pro­gramme where cit­i­zens 100 years and over are ho­n­oured and rec­og­nized for their con­tri­bu­tions to the de­vel­op­ment of Trinidad and To­ba­go. Al­so in at­ten­dance was Her Wor­ship, The May­or of Point Fortin, Al­der­man Saleema Thomas.

Dur­ing the cel­e­bra­tion, In­spec­tor I of the Di­vi­sion of Age­ing, Ms Que­lyn Joseph pre­sent­ed Mrs. Moore with a Cer­tifi­cate of Ho­n­our and Achieve­ment. Ms. Moore al­so re­ceived a cake spon­sored by the Kiss Bak­ing Com­pa­ny and a ham­per for achiev­ing the mile­stone.

Ac­cord­ing to the moth­er of six chil­dren, 13 grand­chil­dren and 32 great grand­chil­dren, if the younger gen­er­a­tion wants to live a long and pros­per­ous life, they should re­spect their par­ents and have more faith in God. Pro­vid­ing in­sight in­to her life, Mrs Moore stat­ed that she was born in St Vin­cent and mi­grat­ed to Trinidad when she was three years old.

“I learnt all my life skills in the Tacarigua Or­phan­age and I thank God for every­thing I can do. I could make the best tamarind balls and ice-cream. Every­thing. Up to this day, I am still mak­ing it.” Mrs Moore al­so stat­ed that de­spite her age, she loves to sing, dance, play cards and read the news­pa­per and Bible every day.

Her Wor­ship, The May­or of Point Fortin, Al­der­man Saleema Thomas wished Mrs. Moore con­tin­ued health and strength on be­half of all the peo­ple of Point Fortin.

Mrs. Moore was the own­er of a par­lour for over twen­ty years, sell­ing pholourie, can­dies and fudge to the ma­jor­i­ty of school chil­dren in Point Fortin.
