King’s Coun­sel Vin­cent Nel­son said he was sor­ry he could not an­swer a ques­tion posed by the Sun­day Guardian and in­struct­ed us to speak to his lo­cal at­tor­ney Shankar Bidaisee.

The Sun­day Guardian con­tact­ed Nel­son at ap­prox­i­mate­ly 7.27 am on Sat­ur­day in the Unit­ed King­dom, and af­ter this in­ves­tiga­tive jour­nal­ist iden­ti­fied him­self, Nel­son asked, “How did you get my num­ber?” This jour­nal­ist replied from a source.

Nel­son then said, “What is it you want to ask? I may not an­swer, but go ahead and ask.”

Nel­son was asked, “If your law­suit claim is suc­cess­ful or un­suc­cess­ful would you do it all over again and give ev­i­dence against Mr Ram­lo­gan and Mr Ramdeen?”

Nel­son paused briefly and said, “Talk to Mr Shankar.”

Af­ter wish­ing him a pleas­ant week­end, Nel­son po­lite­ly said, “Thank you,” and then hung up.

In a fol­low-up What­sApp mes­sage af­ter the con­ver­sa­tion, this jour­nal­ist thanked Nel­son for tak­ing the time.

Nel­son re­spond­ed, “I am sor­ry I could not an­swer your ques­tion. Please speak to Shankar Bidaisee.”

Guardian Me­dia con­tact­ed Bidaisee but he too lim­it­ed his com­ments on the mat­ter.

“My client has and will al­ways been will­ing to co­op­er­ate but will not do so to his detri­ment and/or to fur­ther any ne­far­i­ous and un­law­ful ac­tions of the State,” Bidaisee replied in a What­sApp mes­sage yes­ter­day.
