As Trinidad and Tobago continues to monitor the progression of Tropical Storm Beryl, the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago says there haven’t been any decisions to cancel any ferry sailings.
Speaking with Guardian Media, Lyle Alexander said the situation is being monitored and discussed as it progresses. He notes, however, that the captain of the vessel is responsible for making the final call, and if and when that happens, the public will be informed.
"This decision is made by the captain of the vessel when the weather is contemplated for the trip. It may be early now, but I'm sure they are thinking about it,” Alexander said. “But for the specific trips [this afternoon and tomorrow, when the impact of the storm is expected to be felt a bit stronger], I am not aware if anything has been decided as yet.”
He added: "It all depends on the timing. That is when the masters of the vessel are going to move their vessel and whether or not they would move their vessels. If the Yellow Alert just came out, give us the time to look at it. Compare it to the schedules and make the decision. When any decision is made, the public will be informed."
