Candidate for the post of Political Leader of the People’s National Movement (PNM), Karen Nunez-Tesheira, has written to the party’s Elections Supervisory Committee requesting data on the numbers of PNM members who voted in the party’s internal election over the weekend.
This, as the elections supervisory team is scheduled to meet by Wednesday this week, to review the two-day voting exercise and make recommendations going forward, before the final day of voting on Sunday 4 December 2022, at the PNM’s 50th Convention.
In an email correspondence addressed to Anthony Roberts (the Committee’s Chairman), Peter Taylor—attorney for Mrs Nunez-Tesheira—makes the request, noting that it is not “an unreasonable one”.
“I act on behalf of Mrs. Karen Nunez Tesheira, Dr. Kenneth Butcher and Bishop Victor Phillip candidates for the post of Political Leader, Chairman and Election Officer respectively for the PNM Internal Election 2022,” the correspondence read.
It added: “We hereby request the total number of votes cast per constituency on November 26th and November 27th, 2022, respectively. I anticipate your favourable and timely response since such a request is by no means an unreasonable one from the Candidates.”
Both Trinidad and Tobago have been under Adverse Weather and Riverine Flooding alerts since Friday, with the YELLOW status of both alerts upgraded to ORANGE by Sunday morning—the second day of voting in the PNM’s internal elections.
Early reports indicate that there was a fairly low turnout to the polls on Saturday, with a slightly better turnout on Sunday.
Party sources estimate roughly 10,000 members were able to vote over the two-day exercise. The total PNM membership is some 105,894 persons.
