One man was killed and another was fighting for his life at hospital last night, following a shooting at Sagan Drive, Champs Fleurs, yesterday.
While the dead man remained unidentified up to last night, the injured man was said to be a contractor from the Port-of-Spain area.
The wounded man was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, minutes after he was shot. He underwent emergency treatment and was warded in a critical condition.
The men, who were reportedly ambushed by an unknown gunman at a construction site between 9 am and 10 am, were at work when it is alleged that gunshots were heard coming from the direction of the driveway.
As the head contractor fell to the ground, the wounded man ran into the yard of the house adjacent to the construction site, where he collapsed and died in the driveway.
It is believed two other workers escaped being shot after they hid inside the unfinished building, which is being converted into apartments.
Although the shooting attracted the attention of nearby residents, no one ventured out of their homes to see what had happened.
Instead, residents remained locked inside, even as officers arrived and collected evidence, interviewed people and supervised the removal of the body.
The motive for the shooting was not clear up to yesterday.
