A collision between a ten-wheeler truck and an H-100 pickup in Sangre Grande has left one person seriously injured.
Police said Keron Popo, 35, owner of Kings Shop Restaurant and father of three from Foster Road, remains in serious but stable condition at Sangre Grande Hospital.
The truck driver, who declined to be named, said the accident occurred around 9.30 am yesterday near the Recreation Ground at Damarie Hill. He was heading west in his sand-laden truck when he noticed the white H-100 pickup in the eastbound lane. He moved to the extreme left to avoid a head-on collision, but the pickup struck the right side of his truck.
The truck driver immediately rushed to assist Popo, who was lying across the seat, apparently lifeless. Other motorists tried to help but were unable to free him. Fire officers from Sangre Grande used the jaws of life to cut open the door and release Popo, who was then placed on the pickup tray and rushed to the hospital.
Popo’s brother, who was at the scene, said he was in pain but stable.
The accident caused heavy traffic congestion to Turure, but Sangre Grande police quickly cleared the road. Investigations by the Sangre Grande Traffic Branch are ongoing.
