A PH taxi driver was abducted and robbed by three men during the early hours on Friday as he stopped to drop off a passenger in Cunupia.
The harrowing ordeal later ended with the suspects driving to the victim’s house, where they ordered him to hand over a certain amount of cash or they would kill his family.
Police said the 31-year-old victim of Hummingbird Avenue, New Settlement, Chaguanas, had been plying his car for hire when he stopped to drop off a woman at 2 am at Marchin Road, Cunupia.
Reports said that as he exited the silver Nissan B15, three men walked up and covered his head with a cloth, after which they bound his hands and feet before bundling him into the back seat.
The victim said the men drove him to an unknown location where they robbed him of a Samsung A16 cellphone, $800, and US $120 in cash.
They then placed him in the trunk of his car before driving to his home at Caroni Savannah Road, where they demanded $3,500 in cash or they would kill his family.
The frightened man handed over the money, after which the suspects drove off in his car.
Police are searching for the suspects, who they said included a Spanish-speaking man.
