Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar will make an of­fi­cial vis­it to Guyana fol­low­ing dis­cus­sions with Pres­i­dent Mo­hamed Ir­faan Ali, where both lead­ers agreed on a wide-rang­ing de­vel­op­ment, trade and eco­nom­ic agen­da aimed at strength­en­ing bi­lat­er­al re­la­tions be­tween Trinidad and To­ba­go and Guyana.

The two lead­ers dis­cussed co­op­er­a­tion across sev­er­al ar­eas, in­clud­ing food se­cu­ri­ty, in­vest­ment op­por­tu­ni­ties, en­er­gy in­te­gra­tion, tech­nol­o­gy ex­change, hu­man cap­i­tal de­vel­op­ment and se­cu­ri­ty. They al­so agreed on the es­tab­lish­ment of a work­ing group to re­move bar­ri­ers to trade and im­prove com­pet­i­tive­ness be­tween the two coun­tries.

The work­ing group will in­clude rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the pri­vate sec­tors of both na­tions and will fo­cus on ad­dress­ing de­vel­op­ment chal­lenges and op­por­tu­ni­ties iden­ti­fied dur­ing the dis­cus­sions.

Pres­i­dent Ali thanked the Prime Min­is­ter for her sup­port for Guyana’s ter­ri­to­r­i­al in­tegri­ty and sov­er­eign­ty and ex­pressed ap­pre­ci­a­tion on be­half of the peo­ple of Guyana.

Both gov­ern­ments agreed to con­tin­ue close col­lab­o­ra­tion in the ar­eas out­lined, with the aim of fur­ther deep­en­ing bi­lat­er­al re­la­tions.

Pres­i­dent Ali was ac­com­pa­nied by Min­is­ter of Nat­ur­al Re­sources Vick­ram Bhar­rat, Min­is­ter of Pub­lic Util­i­ties and Avi­a­tion De­o­dat In­dar, Min­is­ter of Pub­lic Ser­vice, Gov­ern­ment Ef­fi­cien­cy and Im­ple­men­ta­tion Zul­fikar Al­ly and Min­is­ter of Labour and Man­pow­er Plan­ning Keo­ma Grif­fith, along with mem­bers of his del­e­ga­tion and pri­vate sec­tor rep­re­sen­ta­tives.

The Prime Min­is­ter was joined by At­tor­ney Gen­er­al John Je­re­mie, Min­is­ter of For­eign and CARI­COM Af­fairs Sean Sobers, Min­is­ter of Pub­lic Util­i­ties Bar­ry Padarath and Min­is­ter of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries Roodal Mooni­lal.
