Two persons have been granted own bail in the sum of $75,000 after appearing before a Point Fortin Magistrate, charged with forgery.
Rashmeet Mohammed, 42, of Egypt Avenue, Point Fortin, was charged with one count of possession of a forged document, and his common-law wife, Shante Balkaran, 39, of the same address, was charged with one count of possession of a forged document and one count of Uttering a Forged Document, when they appeared in the Point Fortin Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
As a condition of bail, they are to report to the Point Fortin Police Station one day of the week before 6 pm.
Reports indicate that during the period March 1st 2022 to March 31st, 2022, two suspects presented one Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Agriculture Land and Fisheries, Land Management Division, Commissioner of State Lands letter dated November 18th 2021, to the Point Fortin Borough Corporation, indicating that permission had been granted by the Commissioner of State Lands for the occupation of state lands situated at Egypt Avenue, Point Fortin.
However, it was discovered that the letter was forged.
A report was made to the police and extensive enquiries were conducted between August 2022 and May 2023, by officers of the
Anti-Corruption Investigations Bureau (ACIB) led by ASP (Ag.) Bryon Daniel.
The investigations resulted in two suspects being arrested and charged with the offences on Wednesday 17th May, 2023, by Cpl Pitt of ACIB.
Investigations were supervised by Snr. Supt. Andy Teewarie and Supt. Darin Lewis.
