A po­lice of­fi­cer was beat­en by two as­sailants dur­ing an at­tempt­ed rob­bery in the car park of a casi­no at South Park Mall last night.

An 18-year-old sus­pect of Quar­ry Road, Tabaquite, is in cus­tody, po­lice said.

The 26-year-old of­fi­cer at­tached to the Guard and Emer­gency Branch Po­lice Acad­e­my was seat­ed in his sil­ver Nis­san Almera with a fe­male rel­a­tive in the car park of Princess Casi­no.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, around 8:45 pm two sus­pects, one armed with a gun, ac­cost­ed them.

The fe­male pas­sen­ger be­came afraid, opened the door and ran.

The of­fi­cer came out his car and strug­gled with the sus­pects who dealt him sev­er­al blows about his body.

The men then ran off, leav­ing the of­fi­cer on the ground. An am­bu­lance took the of­fi­cer to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where he is be­ing treat­ed. Po­lice said his con­di­tion is sta­ble.
