A police sergeant and his family were robbed at gunpoint at a beach house in Manzanilla on Thursday night.
Investigators said around 8.25 pm, Sgt Fareed Mohammed, 53, was at a beach house located at Eastern Main Road, Manzanilla, with four female relatives—all of Princes Town—as well as the owner of the property, Sunjy Lingo, when they were robbed.
Police said four men dressed in dark clothing—two of them masked—entered the house through an open rear door.
One of the suspects pointed a gun at Sgt Mohammed and announced a robbery.
Mohammed was relieved of his licensed Glock 19 pistol with one magazine and 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition, valued at $6,000, along with his wallet. The wallet contained his ID card, driver’s permit, Republic Bank card, $800 in cash, and a pellet gun permit.
Two masked suspects then entered the living room, pointed a firearm at one of his relatives, and robbed her of a Samsung A21S cellphone valued at $800.
The bandits rummaged through the living room and took a wallet containing ID cards, a driver’s permit, two debit cards, $120 in cash, and a medical ID belonging to another of Mohammed’s relatives. They also took an Ommi Digi A11 blue cellphone valued at $1,200 belonging to a third female victim, a Samsung A13 cellphone valued at $1,200 and a Samsung A2 Core cellphone valued at $500 belonging to Lingo.
Sgt Mohammed told police two other masked suspects remained outside on the beachfront during the robbery.
All the suspects escaped on foot via the rear door, heading north along the beach, leading police to believe the men may have been residents of the area.
Officers from the Manzanilla Police Post, Eastern Division Task Force, Mayaro CID, and Mayaro ERP responded and searched the area but no arrests were made. W/Cpl Clarke-Hospedales is continuing investigations.
