Two officers attached to the Chaguanas Police Station recovered one Mac-10 firearm, 25 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition, and one black ski mask while on mobile patrol in Chaguanas yesterday.
According to police reports, around 2:45 pm PCs Chaitlal and Paul were on mobile patrol duty in the vicinity of the Chaguanas layby on the Southbound Lane, just off the Uriah Butler Highway.
The officers observed a man dressed in dark clothing, behaving suspiciously, sitting behind some plants. The officers approached the man, who was also carrying a backpack. They began questioning him, but the suspect dropped the backpack and ran off.
The bag contained the firearm and a magazine loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition and a black ski mask; there was also nine rounds of ammunition in a transparent plastic bag for a total of 25 rounds of ammunition.
PC Paul gave chase; however, the assailant evaded the efforts of the officer. The items were sent to the Special Evidence Recovery Unit for further testing. Investigations into the incident are continuing.
