Two of­fi­cers at­tached to the Ch­agua­nas Po­lice Sta­tion re­cov­ered one Mac-10 firearm, 25 rounds of nine-mil­lime­tre am­mu­ni­tion, and one black ski mask while on mo­bile pa­trol in Ch­agua­nas yes­ter­day.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, around 2:45 pm PCs Chait­lal and Paul were on mo­bile pa­trol du­ty in the vicin­i­ty of the Ch­agua­nas lay­by on the South­bound Lane, just off the Uri­ah But­ler High­way.

The of­fi­cers ob­served a man dressed in dark cloth­ing, be­hav­ing sus­pi­cious­ly, sit­ting be­hind some plants. The of­fi­cers ap­proached the man, who was al­so car­ry­ing a back­pack. They be­gan ques­tion­ing him, but the sus­pect dropped the back­pack and ran off.

The bag con­tained the firearm and a mag­a­zine loaded with 16 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion and a black ski mask; there was al­so nine rounds of am­mu­ni­tion in a trans­par­ent plas­tic bag for a to­tal of 25 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

PC Paul gave chase; how­ev­er, the as­sailant evad­ed the ef­forts of the of­fi­cer. The items were sent to the Spe­cial Ev­i­dence Re­cov­ery Unit for fur­ther test­ing. In­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the in­ci­dent are con­tin­u­ing.
