The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) has confirmed a country-wide power dip shortly after 6:39 PM Thursday.

Power dips were reported across many areas in Trinidad's southern, central, and northern areas. Unlike the previous island-wide outages and dips, T&TEC customers in Tobago also reported a drop in electricity and an outage in Crown Point.

According to T&TEC's Corporate Communications Manager Annabelle Brasnell, "At 6:45 PM, we experienced a disturbance at our 66-kilovolt substation at Bamboo. This is a transmission substation and, therefore, had a knock-on effect at our distribution substations which distribute electricity at 12 kilovolts."

According to T&TEC, Tobago's electricity supply used to run, with the line still connected, from the Bamboo substation through a 132-kilovolt line from Powergen to Bamboo through to Toco and then through to Tobago. This connection led to power dips reported across parts of Crown Point and other areas of Tobago.

She added that substations in Endeavour, Charlieville, and Trincity had been taken offline, causing power outages in Charlieville, Endeavour, Macoya to Piarco, and Las Lomas to Caroni. Outages were also reported across parts of southern and central Trinidad.

Brasnell says as of 7:32 PM, all customers have had their electricity supply returned.

Unfortunately we experienced some problems with the restoration in the Chaguanas area and those customers went  lost supply again. Efforts are in progress to resolve that issue.
