The Public Transport Service Corporation has launched an internal investigation following an incident in which a woman was injured after falling from one of its buses along the San Fernando to Guayaguayare route, in the vicinity of Palmyra.
Video footage of the incident, which has been circulating on social media, shows the woman falling from the bus as it moved off. The footage shows the vehicle running over her hand before coming to a stop.
In a statement, the corporation said it initiated an internal review in keeping with its standard operating procedures and confirmed that the matter is also under investigation by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. PTSC said it is cooperating fully with the police probe.
The injured passenger was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, where she remains under medical care.
PTSC sought to correct reports circulating online and in some media outlets that the woman’s arm had been severed during the incident. The corporation said this was not the case and confirmed that the passenger is in stable condition, with her injuries being treated by medical professionals.
The corporation said its representatives have visited the hospital and remain in contact with the woman’s family.
PTSC said its primary concern remains the health and well-being of the injured passenger and that it will continue to provide support as appropriate while investigations continue.
