A watchman has died after plunging 1,000 feet down a precipice in a tractor at his job site in Guaracara on Thursday.
Motilal Ramnath, 62, was employed at H Dookeran Quarry located at 4 Guaracara Quarry Road, Williamsville.
Reports indicate that his employer gave him permission to operate a tractor to clear an area of yellow limestone on the eastern side of the quarry.
Ramnath started around 9 am, but five hours later another worker, Ricky Rampaul, a mechanic, observed several trees smashed and tracker tracks leading down a precipice. He did not see the tractor.
The Princes Town Fire Station was contacted and a team of officers led by Ag. Fire Sub-officer Mohammed responded. They discovered the tractor down a 1,000-foot precipice with Ramnath in the cab.
Investigations are continuing.
