A 26-year-old man is expected to appear before a Tunapuna Magistrate this week, charged with the 2017 murder of Ricardo Calvin Francis, aka ‘Chan’.
Official police reports state that CHE LEWIS, of Maingot Road, Tunapuna, was charged with murder on Friday 17th July, 2020, at the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre, by PC McQueen, of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region 2.
This follows advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on Thursday 18th June 2020.
Lewis had been charged previously with possession of firearm and ammunition on Thursday 18th June 2020, by officers of the Tunapuna Police Station.
According to a news release issued by the TTPS, 49-year-old Ricardo Calvin Francis was at a store at the corner of Crown and Back Streets in Tacarigua, on May 27th 2017, when two armed men entered the premises.
A confrontation ensued among the victim and the assailants, during which Francis was shot in the face. He died at the scene, while the two suspects escaped.
Che Lewis was arrested in connection with the incident on Thursday 11th June 2020, by officers of the Northern Division.
The TTPS news release explains that this murder was previously solved in 2018, with the charging of 32-year-old Alex Job, of St. Augustine.
