Security personnel assigned to the TSTT EMR Exchange in Port-of-Spain, shot at two armed men who broke into the facility on Tuesday.
No one was injured during the exchange of gunfire, which occurred around 9.05 am.
Police said estate corporal Nixon Alexander was on duty at the warehouse, in company with estate constable Franklin Pierre when they observed a hole in the southern perimeter wall.
They confronted the first suspect, whose head was covered with a white plastic bag, as he crawled through the hole – the officers forced the intruder to scramble back out.
Minutes later, he and a second suspect both pushed their way through the hole and entered the compound.
The second suspect reportedly pulled a gun from his waist and pointed it in the direction of the officers.
As Alexander identified himself as a security officer and ordered the suspects to stop, the armed man allegedly fired in their direction, prompting him to discharge a single round from his Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun.
The suspects reportedly fired at the officers again as they headed towards the hole, following which several gunshots were heard as they fled.
