Seven young artists, who range in age from 12-18 years, are among 65 artists currently featured in the Rotunda Gallery’s exhibition titled, Red, White & Art, which is live until September 29, 2023.
The Rotunda Gallery is located at Red House in Port of Spain—home of the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago.
According to a release from the Parliament Secretariat, the exhibition itself will showcase a total of 88 art pieces, created using different forms of media—from paintings in coloured pencil, oil and acrylic, to wood carvings and clay mouldings, to photography and mixed media. The pieces feature T&T’s “natural and architectural landscapes and show the viewer what it means to be Trinbagonian”.
“’Red, White & Art’ is a commemorative exhibition on Trinidad and Tobago’s Independence Day, which has been observed on the 31st of August each year since the end of British rule in 1962,” the Parliament Secretariat explains.
“The theme of this exhibition aligns with goal #11 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable,” the Secretariat observes. “Target #11.4 calls for strengthening efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage.”
The exhibition will be launched officially by Speaker of the House, Hon. Bridgid Annisette-George MP, on Thursday, September 7.
