A sol­dier charged with caus­ing death by dan­ger­ous dri­ving ap­peared vir­tu­al­ly be­fore Mas­ter Mar­garet Sookraj-Goswa­mi to­day and was grant­ed bail in the sum of $150,000.

Jalani Mapp faces mul­ti­ple charges in con­nec­tion with a fa­tal road traf­fic ac­ci­dent in­volv­ing Kiss truck dri­ver Neil Bal­lai on March 28.

In ad­di­tion to the charge of caus­ing death by dan­ger­ous dri­ving, Mapp, 30, is al­so charged with fail­ing to stop af­ter a road traf­fic ac­ci­dent, dan­ger­ous dri­ving, fail­ure to ren­der as­sis­tance, and dri­ving with­out a cer­tifi­cate of in­sur­ance.

Mapp is re­quired to re­port to a po­lice sta­tion on the first week­day of each month be­tween 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The ac­ci­dent oc­curred when Bal­lai, 55, of Val­sayn, was dri­ving a com­pa­ny truck along the Sir Solomon Ho­choy High­way and was rear-end­ed by a black Hyundai Ion­iq, which then fled the scene. Bal­lai was pro­nounced dead at the scene, while a pas­sen­ger in the truck was hos­pi­tal­ized with in­juries. A male sus­pect was ar­rest­ed short­ly af­ter the in­ci­dent.
