A 46-year-old man was beaten to death and left partially submerged in a drain filled with water in an area known as Hell Yard in Beetham on Thursday.
However, an autopsy is expected to confirm the actual cause of death.
According to a police report, at about 3.30 pm Paul Timothy Adams, who was popularly known as "Speedy" was found partially submerged face down in a water-filled drain at 13th street.
Police described Adams as a drug addict and believed that the circumstances surrounding his death were drug-related.
Investigations are continuing.
Cops seize modified pistol
In an Intelligence-led operation on Thursday in Enterprise, officers recovered a modified 9mm pistol which they said can cause multiple deaths if used in an open public space.
The discovery has been described as “worrying” and as a result, police officers are asking members of the public who may have information as to the person or persons behind the weapon to contact them immediately as they fear that there may be more like it out on the streets.
According to police sources, just before 6 pm on Thursday a team of police officers from the Guard and Emergency Branch acted on intelligence received and went to a bushy area at Madoo Street where they found the concealed weapon loaded with 44 rounds of ammunition.
Police said it had been modified with a fully extended magazine, to utilize the additional ammunition, as well as, an automatic feature.

Serial burglar held
A 32-year-old suspect, wanted in connection with house break-ins and who is known to commit indecent assault offences during such
break-ins, has been held.
The suspect was arrested in the North Eastern Division
Police said the man was previously charged with a number of offences including burglary, grievous sexual assault, house breaking, larceny and serious indecency.
They said Port of Spain Division and North Eastern Division detectives collaborated upon realizing recent similar offences had been committed in their divisions.
The suspect was arrested in the Santa Cruz area on Thursday night by detectives from the Santa Cruz Police Station, and is currently in custody in the Port- of- Spain Division where he is expected to be placed on identification parade concerning offences committed in the Woodbrook district.
Investigations into this matter remain active.
