A Spe­cial Re­serve Po­lice Of­fi­cer was grant­ed bail in the sum of $60,000 by Jus­tice of the Peace, Stephen Young yes­ter­day.

He is due to ap­pear at the Port-of-Spain Mag­is­trates’ Court on Mon­day 21st March, 2022, af­ter he was charged with ob­tain­ing the sum of $47,000 by false pre­tence.

Al­lan Joe­field, who is present­ly on sus­pen­sion, was ar­rest­ed yes­ter­day and was sub­se­quent­ly charged with the of­fence.

The charge stems from an in­ci­dent where a man re­port­ed to po­lice that in 2017, he al­leged­ly paid sums to­talling $47,000 to a man, which rep­re­sent­ed a down pay­ment to­wards the pur­chase of three lots of land lo­cat­ed at Mt Pleas­ant, To­ba­go.

The pur­chas­er sub­se­quent­ly dis­cov­ered that the sell­er was not the own­er of the land, nor was he au­tho­rised to sell the land as he had al­ready trans­ferred own­er­ship of the land to new own­ers since 2012. Ef­forts by the buy­er to ob­tain a re­fund of the mon­ey proved fu­tile.

En­quiries co­or­di­nat­ed by Snr Supt (Ag) Ar­let Groome, Supt (Ag) Ruben and ASP Craig and led by In­sp Smith and oth­er mem­bers of the Fraud Squad team re­sult­ed in the ar­rest of the ac­cused.

Joe­field was sub­se­quent­ly charged by W/Cpl (Ag) Mur­ray for the of­fence of ob­tain­ing the sum of $47,000 by false pre­tences.
