The investigation into the kidnapping of Anisha Hosein-Singh continued yesterday with officials close to it indicating, “It really is at a sensitive stage.”
The update from officers around 4.30 pm, came almost 36 hours after the mother of one was snatched by armed men on Saturday morning in El Dorado. She remained missing despite extensive and intense searches being carried out by the police across several parts of the country from Saturday through yesterday.
Hosein-Singh, 27, of St Joseph – was grabbed by armed men around 5.50 am on May 18, as she and her husband Richie Singh and other workers were setting up their doubles stand along the Eastern Main Road, to begin selling.
Hosein-Singh is the daughter of Ahamad Hosein who owns and operates the Sauce and Sons doubles outlets. Guardian Media confirmed the Anti Kidnapping Unit (AKU) was spearheading the investigation, and was being assisted by various arms of law enforcement.
The silver B15 car in which Hosein-Singh was bundled into, was found hours later abandoned at Lluengo Village, Maracas Valley, St Joseph, around midday on Saturday. It was taken to the Tunapuna Police Station where it remained yesterday.
Senior police officials said contrary to reports that they had not been in contact with Hosein-Singh’s family following the kidnapping, they said officers had sprung into action minutes after the incident as they pursued every lead in the ongoing investigation as well as the search for the missing woman.
They said certain measures had been employed as they did not wish to jeopardise and/or compromise the investigation despite what was being said in the public domain. (Anna-Lisa Paul)
