Hours after he was released from police custody, the close male relative who allegedly killed 19-year-old Alex Coombs attended his funeral.
Coombs' funeral took place at the Wesleyan Holiness Church in Freeport yesterday morning. He was later laid to rest at the St Mary's Junction Public Cemetery.
An autopsy conducted at the Forensic Science Centre revealed that Coombs died from a single stab wound to the chest.
Police said the suspect was released pending a Coroner's Inquest. The inquest was ordered by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The suspect, 56, surrendered to the Freeport Police Station on Tuesday morning.
Last Sunday around 11 pm Coombs was allegedly denied food, an electronic device, beaten, choked and stabbed.
The incident occurred at his home on McLeod Street.
Police said the suspect alleged that Coombs became violent after he was told to take his medication and refused.
Coombs' mother, Sabita Partap, revealed that the teen was diagnosed with a mental illness. She also claimed he had suffered years of abuse at the hands of relatives.
