Homicide detectives are awaiting instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on potential charges against a woman and four men suspected of murdering 60-year-old Cunupia businessman Imraz Ali.
Ali, reported missing on September 4, was last seen leaving a shop in Freeport, driving a black Nissan X-Trail. His decomposing body was discovered over a month later, on October 10, wrapped in plastic and dumped down a precipice off the North Coast Road near the pillars.
Five people have since been arrested in connection with Ali’s murder and remained in custody as of yesterday evening. Police confirmed that a file containing evidence and witness statements has already been compiled and submitted to the DPP for review.
A brief funeral service was held yesterday at the Nazir Ahmad Seemab Memorial Masjid in Charlieville, where friends, relatives, and colleagues paid their final respects.
Mourners told Guardian Media that no eulogies or personal tributes were conducted due to the condition of Ali’s body; only prayers were offered before he was laid to rest at Monroe Road Muslim Cemetery.
Ali, affectionately known as “Clubs”, was remembered fondly by the community.
Chaguanas Mayor Faaiq Mohammed expressed his sorrow over the killing.
“I strongly condemn this heinous and senseless act that has left us all heartbroken. No one deserves such a fate and no family should have to endure such pain,” he said.
