The Solid Waste Management Company (SWMCOL) has reopened the Beetham landfill after a forced closure due to fires at the facility.
In a statement last evening, SWMCOL said that the landfill would be reopened at 5 am for municipal waste only.
It said that due to residual smoke on the western end of the facility, the faecal pond will remain closed to facilitate further work in that area.
In the statement, the company thanked stakeholders for their patience during the battle with the fires, and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
The fire began on Wednesday night and continued throughout Friday, leading to large plumes of smoke partially obscuring vision on the highway and skyline of Port-of-Spain.
