A teacher who was extremely impressed by the presentation skills of one of her local police officers on the occasion of World Read Aloud Day, has penned a letter of gratitude to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
PC Darion Thomas, a motorcyclist attached to the Sangre Grande Traffic Section, was the guest speaker at the Sangre Grande Government Primary School on February 7, 2024, where he read from DreamLand’s 101 Moral Stories Book on the topic of ‘Fearing Bullies’. The story describes bullies in school and what students can and must do to stand up against them.
A post in the Police Service's social media explains that the school visit forms part of the Eastern Division’s thrust of community and stakeholder engagement through meaningful and sustained connections throughout all neighbourhoods under its care.
The teacher, Indira Seebaransingh, wrote the following letter of commendation concerning PC Thomas:
“On Wednesday 7 February 2024, our school, the Sangre Grande Government Primary, celebrated World Read Aloud Day 2024.
Our guest speaker is a member of the Police Service PC Darion Thomas. PC Thomas read a story about Bullying to the entire school’s population.
It was well received by the staff and students. PC Thomas was able to actively engage with the students through the story. The students, with his guidance, were to follow the events of the story and anticipate the events of the story and anticipate what will happen next. He was able to explore the meaning of the story and connect it to real-life situations in schools.
The Principal Ms Harripaul, the Vice Principal Ms. Daniel and all members of staff and students would like to express our gratitude to the Police Service—and especially to PC Thomas—for a job well done.
We do hope that he can visit our school again to engage with the students as he did make a meaningful impact on their lives.
We thank you, PC Thomas.”
