A 20-year-old man from Tobago who was charged in connection with the murder of 28-year-old Wanya Kareem Small and the wounding of another 28-year-old which allegedly occurred on January 1 at Patience Hill, Tobago, has been remanded into custody.
Jamal Samuel, unemployed, of Signal Hill Main Road, Signal Hill Tobago, appeared virtually before Master of the High Court at Scarborough, Sarah De Silva, on Monday, charged with murder, shooting with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition. Charges were laid by PC Salvary of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region One Office.
Samuel was remanded into custody until his next appearance on June 3.
Samuel was arrested last week Tuesday by officers of the Tobago Divisional Task Force (TDTF) and Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
According to police reports, on January 1 at 4 pm, Small and another man were walking in the vicinity of St Luke Road, Patience Hill, Tobago, when they were shot.
One man succumbed to the injuries while the other was treated at the hospital and subsequently discharged.
The investigation was supervised by ASP Bridgelal, Insp Mungroo, Insp (Ag.) Joefield, and Sgt Quashie-George of the HBI, Region One, with the assistance of the TDTF and CID.
