A Moruga man died instantly on Sunday evening after the truck he was using to haul logs went over a precipice along the Toco Main Road.

The victim was 53-year-old Terry Chance of Rochard Douglas Road, St Mary’s Village.

The crash happened around 6 p.m. near Mora Trace South Bank Road in Tompire, Toco.

Witnesses told police that Chance was heading east along the trace in a white Mack truck with a trailer full of logs when one of the rear wheels clipped the edge of the road. The truck and trailer went straight over the precipice.

The vehicle reportedly flipped about four times as it tumbled downhill, throwing Chance out.

When officers got to the scene, they found the truck and trailer about 60 feet down the slope. Chance’s body was lying about ten feet from the wreck.

He was a licensed firearm holder. Police found his Glock 43 pistol with a magazine and ten rounds of 9 mm ammo a short distance away and were able to secure it.

Fire officers from the Santa Cruz Fire Station made their way down the slope and recovered his body.
