The Anglican Church in T&T has extended congratulations to the Rt Revd Dame Sarah Mullally DBE on her appointment as the first female Archbishop of Canterbury.
The Archbishop of Canterbury is the senior bishop and a principal leader of the Church of England, the ceremonial head of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
In a statement issued yesterday, the local Diocese described her selection as a “momentous occasion, almost 500 years in the making”, calling it a testament to the work of the Holy Spirit within the Anglican Communion.
The Diocese, led by Bishop of T&T, Claude Berkley, said it rejoices with Anglicans worldwide as Mullally takes up the historic post, which it believes will inspire “greater faithfulness to the Gospel and renewed commitment to the mission of God in every place.”
The local Church also underscored its longstanding ties to Canterbury, saying this connection continues to serve as “a wellspring of unity, faith, and mission” for Anglicans in T&T.
Offering prayers for her leadership, the Diocese said it hopes Mullally’s ministry will be marked by wisdom, compassion, and vision, assuring her of “unwavering support” as she assumes office.
