Two get scholarships to pursue Master’s in Korea

Two Trinida­di­an stu­dents have been award­ed the 2019 Ko­re­an Gov­ern­ment Schol­ar­ship to pur­sue Mas­ter’s De­grees in Ko­rea.

The Em­bassy of the Re­pub­lic of Ko­rea made the an­nounce­ment via a news re­lease yes­ter­day.

This year’s schol­ar­ship win­ners are Afeisha Taitt who was se­lect­ed to pur­sue a Mas­ter’s De­gree in Bio­med­ical Sci­ence and Tech­nol­o­gy at the Konkuk Uni­ver­si­ty and Cur­mairah Cam­bridge who was se­lect­ed to pur­sue a Mas­ter’s De­gree in Clin­i­cal Psy­chol­o­gy at the Keimyung Uni­ver­si­ty.

The state­ment said that the Ko­re­an Gov­ern­ment through the Na­tion­al In­sti­tute for In­ter­na­tion­al Ed­u­ca­tion’s (NI­IED) Glob­al Ko­rea Schol­ar­ship (GKS) pro­gramme of­fers schol­ar­ships to for­eign stu­dents who wish to fur­ther pur­sue their un­der­grad­u­ate and grad­u­ate de­grees at Ko­re­an ter­tiary ed­u­ca­tion­al in­sti­tu­tions.

The Ko­re­an Gov­ern­ment schol­ar­ships are se­lect­ed based on aca­d­e­m­ic mer­it and will cov­er the full cost of study in­clud­ing one year of study for the Ko­re­an lan­guage.

The state­ment said both stu­dents have ex­pressed their keen in­ter­est to study in Ko­rea and are look­ing for­ward to ex­plor­ing Ko­re­an cul­ture and lan­guage while fur­ther­ing their ed­u­ca­tion­al goals.

They will be­gin their two-year de­gree pro­grammes in Sep­tem­ber of this year with one ad­di­tion­al year al­lo­cat­ed to study­ing the Ko­re­an lan­guage to fa­mil­iar­ize with their new en­vi­ron­ment and stu­dent life in Ko­rea. On Au­gust 13, Am­bas­sador Moonup Sung in­vit­ed the awardees to a lun­cheon at his of­fi­cial res­i­dence in which he of­fered en­cour­ag­ing ad­vice and use­ful in­for­ma­tion for their stay in Ko­rea.
