Two per­sons were ar­rest­ed and two firearms and a quan­ti­ty of cannabis seized by of­fi­cers dur­ing on­go­ing an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es across the coun­try on Fri­day.

In the first ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers of the San­ta Cruz Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID) along with of­fi­cers of the Barataria CID, North East­ern Di­vi­sion Emer­gency Re­sponse Pa­trol, San Juan CID, Ca­nine Branch and North East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force, pro­ceed­ed to the San­ta Cruz dis­trict be­tween 4 pm and 8 pm.

On reach­ing the Up­per San­ta Cruz dis­trict, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed a search along a river­bank which re­sult­ed in the dis­cov­ery of one AR-15 ri­fle with two mag­a­zines loaded with 40 rounds of 5.56 am­mu­ni­tion.

In the South­ern Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers of the San Fer­nan­do Po­lice Sta­tion con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween 6 pm and 10 pm, yes­ter­day, dur­ing which they pro­ceed­ed to the La Ro­maine dis­trict and in­ter­cept­ed a dark brown Nis­san Navar­ra mo­tor ve­hi­cle fol­low­ing a short, high-speed chase.

A search of the ve­hi­cle re­sult­ed in the dis­cov­ery of one pis­tol loaded with a mag­a­zine.

One male sus­pect was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

And, a War­rant and Street Check Op­er­a­tion con­duct­ed in both the North East­ern and Port of Spain Di­vi­sions be­tween 9 pm Fri­day and 2 am on Sat­ur­day, re­sult­ed in the dis­cov­ery of 7.3 kilo­grammes of cannabis at Seales Av­enue, Laven­tille.

Of­fi­cers al­so ar­rest­ed one man on an Af­fil­i­a­tion War­rant in the sum of $22,200.
