Two persons were arrested and two firearms and a quantity of cannabis seized by officers during ongoing anti-crime exercises across the country on Friday.
In the first exercise, officers of the Santa Cruz Criminal Investigations Department (CID) along with officers of the Barataria CID, North Eastern Division Emergency Response Patrol, San Juan CID, Canine Branch and North Eastern Division Task Force, proceeded to the Santa Cruz district between 4 pm and 8 pm.
On reaching the Upper Santa Cruz district, officers conducted a search along a riverbank which resulted in the discovery of one AR-15 rifle with two magazines loaded with 40 rounds of 5.56 ammunition.
In the Southern Division, officers of the San Fernando Police Station conducted an exercise between 6 pm and 10 pm, yesterday, during which they proceeded to the La Romaine district and intercepted a dark brown Nissan Navarra motor vehicle following a short, high-speed chase.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of one pistol loaded with a magazine.
One male suspect was arrested in connection with the find.
And, a Warrant and Street Check Operation conducted in both the North Eastern and Port of Spain Divisions between 9 pm Friday and 2 am on Saturday, resulted in the discovery of 7.3 kilogrammes of cannabis at Seales Avenue, Laventille.
Officers also arrested one man on an Affiliation Warrant in the sum of $22,200.
