Police arrested two men and seized two firearms and ammunition in separate incidents in the North Eastern, and Eastern Divisions, yesterday.
The TTPS said at approximately 10:15 pm, officers of the North Eastern Division conducted Operation Blue Line Exercise on 2nd December, 2023 in the vicinity of Real Street, San Juan.
Police said during a stop and search, PC Eastman stopped a beige-coloured Toyota Corolla, driven by a 22-year-old labourer from Eastern Main Road, San Juan.
The officers searched the vehicle and the driver. During the search, officers reportedly found one Amadeo Rossi firearm with five rounds of ammunition tucked in the waist area of the man. The items were seized and the driver was arrested and charged for the offence.
PC Eastman is continuing enquiries.
The Police also said earlier that day in the Eastern Division, at approximately 4:45 pm, officers of Special Patrol Unit, Valencia, responded to a report of loud explosions in the vicinity of Brick House Restaurant and Bar, Valencia Old Road. Upon arrival, the officers observed several people involved in a scuffle, which they soon quelled. While interviewing the people involved, they conducted a search of one of the participants and allegedly found a .38 Special Revolver and 5 rounds of ammunition.
The 22-year-old man from Valencia Road was found not to be a valid permit holder; therefore, the items were seized and he was placed under arrest and conveyed to the Valencia Police Post. Enquiries are continuing into the seizures.
