Two wanted men arrested during lockdown exercise

Two men for whom po­lice had been seek­ing for some time, were fi­nal­ly ar­rest­ed dur­ing a lock­down po­lice ex­er­cise in Ari­ma yes­ter­day.

Po­lice of­fi­cers locked down sev­er­al ar­eas be­tween 10 am and 4 pm on Wednes­day and Thurs­day and were able to ar­rest the two men, aged 21 and 36. One was want­ed for break­ing and en­ter­ing and the oth­er for rob­bery. Both men were ar­rest­ed at about 11.30 am at Sher­wood Park in Ari­ma.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers al­so re­ceived in­for­ma­tion and went to four lo­ca­tions in the Arou­ca dis­trict where they seized a black and chrome re­volver with two rounds of .38 am­mu­ni­tion, a black and chrome Jeri­cho 941 Is­rael Mil­i­tary In­dus­try pis­tol fit­ted with one mag­a­zine and five rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion, and a black Tau­rus .45 Rag­ing John Mag­num Re­volver pis­tol.

The of­fi­cers al­so found 27 pack­ets con­tain­ing co­caine which weighed 575 grammes, as well as car­cass­es of wild meat in a re­frig­er­a­tor.

The in­di­vid­u­als were ar­rest­ed for var­i­ous of­fences­—pos­ses­sion of an ap­pa­ra­tus, pos­ses­sion of co­caine, and be­ing found in a place where dan­ger­ous drugs are used. 

The of­fi­cers that par­tic­i­pat­ed in the ex­er­cis­es were from the Ma­jor Op­er­a­tions Unit, North­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force and Op­er­a­tion Strike Back Unit led by Snr Sup David Sup Ed­wards, ASP Gyan and Task Force Sgts Pitt and Mas­call.

Po­lice promised many more ex­er­cis­es like this in the near fu­ture.
