Two-year-old Ja­mi Williams of Beetham Gar­dens died af­ter he was struck by a ve­hi­cle along the East­ern Main Road, St Joseph, on Thurs­day night.

Around 8.15 pm, Williams ran across the road near SURE Se­cu­ri­ty, with his par­ents fol­low­ing be­hind him. A white Nis­san E26 pan­el van, dri­ven by a 35-year-old woman from Barataria, was head­ing east when the child ran in­to its path.

The dri­ver told po­lice she slammed on the brakes to avoid a col­li­sion but felt an im­pact on the left side of the ve­hi­cle. She stopped a short dis­tance away and, along with the child’s par­ents, rushed him to the Mt Hope Pae­di­atric Hos­pi­tal.

Doc­tors pro­nounced him dead on ar­rival.
