The Joint Trade Union Movement is calling on all public sector workers to report for duty come January 17, vaccinated or not.
Union heads held a press conference on the steps of the Attorney General's Office in Port-of-Spain today to raise their concerns about the government's plan to create safe zones in public offices. The policy calls for public sector workers to be vaccinated by mid-January or risk being furloughed - sent home with no pay.
President General of the Oilfields Workers Unions and the Joint Trade Union Movement, Ancel Roget wants those who choose not to be vaccinated to also show up to work.
"I want to tell all workers, present yourself for work on the 17th and continue to present yourself, let them deny you entry into your place of work and that will be tantamount to illegal lockout which the trade union and our legal team is waiting to deal with those issues. I repeat, do not set up yourselves by staying home present yourself to work."
Two vaccination sites have been set up for public sector workers to be vaccinated from tomorrow, Wednesday.
