Police are hunting for two Venezuelan migrants who murdered a fellow countryman, after he failed to provide them with gold on Wednesday night.
Crime Scene Investigators recovered three 9mm bullet casings with the markings TTPS at the South Oropouche apartment where 23-year-old Daniel Gonzales met his death.
Police said the Spanish-speaking men broke into Gonzales’ apartment in Aripero Village around 10 pm, where he was with his common-law wife, Daniela Barrerra, 20 and neighbour Samuel Richar, 50.
After killing Gonzales, the killers left with his clothing, baby clothes, a Samsung I10 mobile phone, and a Nokia 2.4 mobile phone.
A report stated that PC Patrice, PC Joseph and PC Rampersad were patrolling the area when they got a report of gunshots being heard at Pond Road.
On arrival, the officers tried to interview Barrerra, but she could not speak English. Instead, she pointed to her apartment. The officers went to the apartment and saw Gonzales lying motionless in the living room with gunshot wounds to the head area and a chop wound on his neck. There was a blue cloth tied around his right hand, both feet bound with white cloth, and a blue cloth around his neck.
Investigators said the men, armed with firearms, walked through an open front door and called out Gonzales by his name. They tied up Richar and put him into another room before beating Gonzales while asking, “Where is the gold”.
The killers then tied up Gonzales and shot him in the head.
Police had to use Google Translate to interview Barrerra.
DMO Dr Ratiram viewed the body and ordered its removal to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, for an autopsy.
Cpl Griffith, PC Ramoutar and WPC Valdez, from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region Three, responded and interviewed several people. South Western Division’s Crime Scene Investigators visited and processed the scene, recovering three 9mm spent shells, three projectiles, six 7.35 mm spent shells and one straight cutlass.
