A wanted man opened fire on police officers after they found him standing in a makeshift camp in Paramin.
He managed to escape despite police officers returning fire.
However, police officers seized one AR15 rifle fitted with a magazine and three rounds of 5.56 ammunition.
A search of the makeshift camp which was off Cameron Road officers found and seized one 12 gauge shotgun with one round of 12 gauge ammunition, one Fobus pistol holster, a ski mask, a camouflage jersey, one head lamp and two cellphones.
According to a police report, at about 6.30 pm on Wednesday a team of officers of the Western Division Task Force led by Ago Sgt Brisbane and supervised by Ago Cpl Dominique responded to a report of gunshots heard in the Cameron area.
The officers responded and made their way about 100 metres off the roadway to a makeshift camp where they saw the man who they identified by name and as a "wanted man" standing close to the camp armed with an AR15 rifle.
Police said as they attempted to approach him he opened fire forcing them to shoot at him, however, he escaped by jumping off a steep slope which led to a thick forested area. An extensive search was subsequently conducted however the suspect was not found.
Police said the man is wanted on several outstanding warrants including murder, possession of firearm, ammunition and narcotics trafficking.
