Weapons seized and 16 arrested in police exercise

Six­teen per­sons were ar­rest­ed for var­i­ous of­fences—in­clud­ing mur­der and rape—dur­ing an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise in the North­ern Di­vi­sion this morn­ing.

In ad­di­tion to mur­der, the oth­er of­fences of those ar­rest­ed in­clud­ed: pos­ses­sion of firearms and am­mu­ni­tion; pos­ses­sion of co­caine for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing; gang-re­lat­ed en­quiries; and an out­stand­ing war­rant for rape.

Of­fi­cial po­lice re­ports in­di­cate that three firearms and a quan­ti­ty of am­mu­ni­tion were seized af­ter the ex­e­cu­tion of sev­er­al search war­rants, name­ly:

•  One (1) AR ri­fle with one (1) mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 53 rounds of 5.56 am­mu­ni­tion;

•  One (1) Tau­rus Pis­tol with six (6) rounds of .45 am­mu­ni­tion and six (6) rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion; and

•  One (1) Glock 19 pis­tol with one (1) drop bar­rel mag­a­zine and one (1) se­lec­tor to­geth­er with 27 rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion.

A quan­ti­ty of co­caine and cannabis al­so was seized.

The an­ti-crime ini­tia­tive was led by Snr Supt Shel­don David, and co­or­di­nat­ed by ASP Gyan and In­sp Pitt. It was spear­head­ed by Sgt La Pierre, Ag/Cpl Forde, Ag/Cpl Su­perville, PCs John, Ram­dass, Gaffoor, Cor­dring­ton, and Per­sad.

The op­er­a­tion in­clud­ed oth­er mem­bers of the North­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force (NDTF) West; and per­son­nel from the St Joseph Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID) head­ed by In­sp Her­nan­dez and Sgt Thomas, as well as Con­sta­ble Per­sad from the Tu­na­puna Process Sec­tion and Ca­nine Branch.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing.
