“I would like to know why...from whomever killed him, what was the purpose of his death?”
Begging for the answer to this question yesterday as she waited on the autopsy results of her murdered husband, Valerie Decle said she was confused as to why anyone would want to kill Vince “Dublo” Decle.
The 54-year-old Unemployment Relief Programme (URP) foreman was shot several times around 3 pm on March 6, after receiving a call to come outside his River Estate, Diego Martin home.
Neighbours who heard the gunshots alerted the police, who arrived and took him to the St James Medical Complex, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Comforted by the couple’s only daughter, Pachilli Douglas, and other relatives at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, Valerie said, “To me, he had no enemies. To me, he wasn’t owing anybody.”
However, she admitted not knowing what he was involved in outside of their home.
The couple had been together for the past 29 years and spent the last 15 married.
The widow said, “We always liked to enjoy life.”
She said Dulce was always a loving and jolly guy, who lived to spoil his grandchildren and go to the beach.
Decle’s daughter said they were initially notified by the driver who dropped off her children from school about her father’s shooting.
Douglas said both she and her mother were at work when it occurred, and it was only when a neighbour contacted her to offer condolences that they were also made aware of the harrowing incident.
No stranger to such grief after losing a son 12 years ago to gun-related violence, Valerie credited God for keeping her sane.
“That’s who I trust and believe in,” she said.
