Tunapuna police are investigating an incident where a 53-year-old woman was knocked unconscious by a man using a chemical in a rag and then robbed on Sunday afternoon.
Police said the woman got into a car she thought was a taxi on Bharath Street, Tunapuna, around 1 p.m.
Three other men were in the car at the time and on reaching St Augustine Circular Road, she saw one of the backseat passengers pull out a rag and spray an unknown liquid into it.
The man then pulled the woman's hair and pressed the damp rag onto her face.
The woman reported feeling dizzy before losing consciousness.
She recovered hours later around 5 pm at the corner of the Pasea Main Road and the Priority Bus Route only to realise her cellphone and the $3,500 cash she was carrying were missing.
