The female relative remained in police custody yesterday following the stabbing death of Roy Phillip, 76, in San Juan on Wednesday.
Police said that the woman is remaining steadfast in her statement alleging that she was defending herself.
Phillip was fatally stabbed in the chest following a domestic dispute he had with a relative while at their home.
Phillip was an ex-convict and was charged with manslaughter.
He had served several years in prison before reintegrating into society.
According to a police report, police were on mobile patrol at 2.50 pm when they were alerted by civilians that Phillip and the suspect, were involved in a domestic dispute.
Police were told that Phillip threw hot water on the suspect who then stabbed him in the chest.
Phillip ran outside and fell in front of the house where he died.
The woman also ran out of the house with burns on both hands and her lower body.
Police said they recovered a steak knife about seven inches long in front of the house.
They believe it was the weapon used to stab the deceased.
