Out-of-favour T&T winger, Caen-France-born Kaile Auvray, and defending champions Cavalier FC will go after a second straight Jamaica Premier League (JPL) crown when they meet Mount Pleasant Academy at Independence Park, National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica, Friday from 9 pm (TT time).
Cavalier FC will enter the match as favourites, being the two-time reigning Concacaf Caribbean Cup champions and holders of the Jamaica Premier League title as well, and it will mark the third consecutive meeting between the teams in the JPL final.
Cavalier FC ended the 39-match regular season in the fourth spot with 69 points before easing past Portmore United 2-1 in the quarterfinals on aggregate (1-1 and 1-0) and a similar outcome versus round-robin runners-up, Arnett Gardens, in the semifinals (1-1 and 1-0).
On the other side of the draw, Mount Pleasant, champions in 2022-2023, topped the round-robin league with 93 points, 17 clear of second-placed Arnett Gardens, and was handed a bye to the semifinal, where they got past Montego Bay, the club of T&T quintet (Darnell Hospedales, Aaron Enill, Jordon Britto, Josiah Trimmingham and Che Benny) 2-1 as well after their home-and-away series in their semifinal.
In the quarterfinals, Montego Bay battled past Tivoli Gardens 3-2 on aggregate (2-1 and 1-1).
By reaching the final, both Cavalier FC and Mount Pleasant secured spots in the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup, while the winners of Friday’s third-place match, which kicks off at 7.30 pm (T&T) time, will earn a spot in the CONCACAF Caribbean Shield, a qualifier to the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup.
Cavalier FC is led by sporting director Paul Christie, while Mount Pleasant is led by technical director and former Jamaica standout Theodore Whitmore.
