Out-of-favour T&T winger, Caen-France-born Kaile Au­vray, and de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons Cav­a­lier FC will go af­ter a sec­ond straight Ja­maica Pre­mier League (JPL) crown when they meet Mount Pleas­ant Acad­e­my at In­de­pen­dence Park, Na­tion­al Sta­di­um in Kingston, Ja­maica, Fri­day from 9 pm (TT time).

Cav­a­lier FC will en­ter the match as favourites, be­ing the two-time reign­ing Con­ca­caf Caribbean Cup cham­pi­ons and hold­ers of the Ja­maica Pre­mier League ti­tle as well, and it will mark the third con­sec­u­tive meet­ing be­tween the teams in the JPL fi­nal.

Cav­a­lier FC end­ed the 39-match reg­u­lar sea­son in the fourth spot with 69 points be­fore eas­ing past Port­more Unit­ed 2-1 in the quar­ter­fi­nals on ag­gre­gate (1-1 and 1-0) and a sim­i­lar out­come ver­sus round-robin run­ners-up, Ar­nett Gar­dens, in the semi­fi­nals (1-1 and 1-0).

On the oth­er side of the draw, Mount Pleas­ant, cham­pi­ons in 2022-2023, topped the round-robin league with 93 points, 17 clear of sec­ond-placed Ar­nett Gar­dens, and was hand­ed a bye to the semi­fi­nal, where they got past Mon­tego Bay, the club of T&T quin­tet (Dar­nell Hospedales, Aaron Enill, Jor­don Brit­to, Josi­ah Trim­ming­ham and Che Ben­ny) 2-1 as well af­ter their home-and-away se­ries in their semi­fi­nal.

In the quar­ter­fi­nals, Mon­tego Bay bat­tled past Tivoli Gar­dens 3-2 on ag­gre­gate (2-1 and 1-1).

By reach­ing the fi­nal, both Cav­a­lier FC and Mount Pleas­ant se­cured spots in the CON­CA­CAF Caribbean Cup, while the win­ners of Fri­day’s third-place match, which kicks off at 7.30 pm (T&T) time, will earn a spot in the CON­CA­CAF Caribbean Shield, a qual­i­fi­er to the CON­CA­CAF Caribbean Cup.

Cav­a­lier FC is led by sport­ing di­rec­tor Paul Christie, while Mount Pleas­ant is led by tech­ni­cal di­rec­tor and for­mer Ja­maica stand­out Theodore Whit­more.
