Bachan wins Open 10-Ball Tobago tourney

For­mer na­tion­al cham­pi­on Clint Bachan came out of re­tire­ment for the re­cent na­tion­al qual­i­fiers and proved that class is per­ma­nent in win­ning the re­cent Open In­vi­ta­tion­al 10-ball bil­liards tour­na­ment in To­ba­go on Tues­day evening.

Bachan, who hails from Ca­roni, beat Vishaal Singh in the race to three fi­nal to lift the tro­phy and $2,000 cash prize.

The tour­na­ment, which was or­gan­ised to co­in­cide with the vis­it of the Guyana team, was held at Big Dawg Bil­liards in Bon Ac­cord, a venue which boasts two spank­ing new 9-foot tour­na­ment-style ta­bles.

Vet­er­an play­er Al­lan James of To­ba­go, the man be­hind the To­ba­go leg of Guyana's tour, copped third place.

On Mon­day, a team tour­na­ment was held with the Guyana team tak­ing on a rep­re­sen­ta­tive To­ba­go team in a race to four match­es. The match con­sist­ed of six sin­gle games and one dou­bles game, each game a race to three.

The To­ba­go team fea­tured Al­lan James, An­cil Pa­jotte, Rod­ney Thomas, Dex­ter Tay­lor, Keron Adams and three in­vit­ed play­ers from Trinidad, Adri­an Mo­ra, Fi­del Mo­hammed and Ay­oub Mo­hammed. Dami­an Dou­glas and Ever­ald Alexan­der, who were al­so part of the To­ba­go team, did not fea­ture in the team tour­na­ment but played in the 10-ball event.

Guyana, al­so called the Pool Jaguars, bounced back from a 1-3 deficit to seal the match 4-3. Kamil Hus­sain beat A. Mo­hammed 3-2 in the first en­counter.

Mo­ra then took out Steven Per­saud in three straight; the dou­bles pair of Pa­jotte and Adams lost to Ryan Baksh and Ronald Bridge­mo­han 1-3; Rod­ney Thomas won his game against Ab­dool Sal­im 3-1; Tay­lor was swept by Guyana’s best tour play­er Sean De Souza; James beat Ryan Ram­bal­ak 3-2 and in the de­cid­ing game F. Mo­hammed went un­der to An­tho­ny Xavier in three frames.

Af­ter the two days of com­pe­ti­tion, Xavier was named most out­stand­ing play­er.

The Guyana team de­part­ed Trinidad on Wednes­day.
