VINODE MAMCHAN

Class is class! Darren Bravo was a cut above the rest yesterday evening at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, registering an imperious unbeaten 60 to take Queen’s Park I into the semi-finals of the T&T Cricket Board (T&TCB) Premiership Division T20 tournament.

Queen’s Park chasing Caldrac’s score of 110, got home in 15.2 overs for the loss of only two wickets, sending a note of warning to other teams in the competition.

Bravo looked as if he was batting on a totally different pitch from the other batsmen as he lent bat to ball with tremendous ease. One of the sixes he hit, struck to roof on top the third level of the Press facility.

He ended unbeaten on 60 off 53 balls with five sixes and two fours. Skipper Justin Guillen scored 20 to be the next best for the Parkites. They now await the winners of the Alescon Comets versus Merryboys clash, which took place last night at the same venue.

Winning the toss Caldrac decided to take first strike and got off to a good start reaching 45 for one off just five overs. Franklyn Rouse the former Merryboys player took a liking to the pace of Shannon Gabriel and Terrence Hinds.

As soon as Guillen brought on the slower bowlers, he was able to pull the game back and as wickets started to fall regularly, there was no meaningful partnership that could have led to a good platform to attack towards the end.

Leg-spinner Yannic Carriah was chief among the wicket-takers finishing with three wickets for 18 runs from four overs.

SCORES

Caldrac Sports 110/7 (20) (Shakeel McDavid 26, Andre Dandrade 22, Carriah 3/23) vs QPCC I 115/2 (15.2) (Darren Bravo 60 n.o., Justin Guillen 20) - QPCC I won by 8 wkts.
