This coun­try's men's Hock­ey5s team con­tin­ued their prepa­ra­tions for the in­au­gur­al FIH Hock­ey 5s World Cup in Mus­cat, Oman from Jan­u­ary 28 to 31 with two warm-up wins against lo­cal clubs at the Wood­brook Youth Fa­cil­i­ty, Hamil­ton-Hold­er Street, Wood­brook on Thurs­day night.

In their two match­es, the lo­cal men's team won 6-2 against Malvern and 9-3 over Po­lice as they con­tin­ued their readi­ness for ac­tion in Pool C of the World Cup against Aus­tralia, New Zealand and Kenya.

The oth­er groups will see the Nether­lands, Pak­istan, Poland, and Nige­ria in Pool A; In­dia, Egypt, Switzer­land, and Ja­maica in Pool C and Oman, Malaysia, USA, and Fi­ji in Pool D.

Ear­li­er this year at the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies, Mona cam­pus Turf in Kingston, Ja­maica, the Dar­ren Cowie-coached T&T men's Hock­ey5s squad cap­tained by Akim Tou­s­saint qual­i­fied to the tour­na­ment in Oman de­spite a 3-2 loss to USA on penal­ties in Hock­ey5s Pan Amer­i­can Cup in Kingston, Ja­maica in June af­ter a 2-2 draw in reg­u­la­tion time.

Lead­ing the way for T&T at the qual­i­fiers was Eng­land-based Teague Mar­cano, who tal­lied a tour­na­ment-high 17 goals while Tou­s­saint, and Mick­ell Pierre both fin­ished with ten goals as the joint sec­ond-high­est scor­ers for the T&T men, who net­ted a tour­na­ment team-high 48 goals while Mar­cano al­so copped the "Most Valu­able Play­er" ac­co­lade.
