The pair of Akil Campbell and Alexi Costa-Ramirez was crowned national champions when the T&T Cycling Federation's National Championships Time Trials were held in Wallerfield on Saturday afternoon.
Costa-Ramirez, who recently signed to join the American tour team Miami Blazers for the 2023 season, demolished the field in the Elite Women 15-Lap event by sprinting to victory in a time of 35 minutes and 13.71 seconds.
She was a comfortable five minutes ahead of her closest rival, second-place Marsha Trepte of the Raiders Cycle and Multisport Team, crossing the finish line in 40:50.68 and third-place Kanika Paul-Payne in 40:56.65, riding unattached.
Meanwhile, Campbell, expected to win the men's elite 22-lap time trial event, did not disappoint. With the rising Tariq Woods of the Evolution Cycling Academy expected to be his main competitor, the PSL rider put foot to the pedal to finish a distance three minutes ahead of Woods in 41:04.53.
Woods took the silver medal in 44: 33.60 while Enrique De Comarmond of Heatwave was third in a time of 45:42.97.
