Sisters Em-Miryam Campbell-Smith and Abba-Campbell-Smith are part of an interesting bit of history in the world of tennis.
The siblings, Em-Miryam, who is the older of the two sisters at 13 years, and Abba at 11, are the first pair of sisters to have made it into the top 15 players in the North, Central American, and the Caribbean (COTECC) region rankings.
The sport's world governing body, the International Tennis Federation (ITF), released the COTECC Under-14 rankings recently, putting Em-Miryam at fourth, while Abba is joint 15th with compatriot Shiloh Walker.
Makeda Bain is the only other T&T player in the top 15 rankings at sixth.
Both have had fascinating stints this year in the sport. Em-Miryam racked up the record for the most titles for a T&T player in the region this year and, at one time, was ranked number one in the COTECC, a position she held for about a year.
Em-Miryam, who also helped her school St Joseph's Convent to the girls' football title in the Secondary Schools Football League, is also the youngest player to have won a senior tournament when she topped the East Club Classified Tournament Division B last year.
Her sister Abba is a double-crown winner at the Catch National Junior Tennis Championship hosted by the Tennis Association of T&T (TennisTT) at the National Racquet Centre and she claimed the win for the RBC Junior Tennis Tournament girls' U-12 division singles title by beating Madison Khan in the final.
The achievement of the sisters comes on the heels of their qualification for the final of the girls' singles of the recent U-14 COTECC Summer Bowl Tournament at the Tacarigua facility last month.
The sisters left T&T for Miami on Saturday, en route to the COTECC ITF Masters Tennis Tournament in Mexico. Only Em-Miryam will play in the tournament.
