Two-time Olympian Dylan Carter picked up two bronze medals as his London Roar registered an impressive win on Match Day Four semifinal playoffs in the International Swimming League at the Pieter Van Den Hoogenband Stadium, Eindhoven, Holland on Sunday.
Going into Sunday’s second and final day of Match Day Four, London Roar led after 20 events with 287.5 points, 47.5 ahead of Cali Condors (238) while LA Current is third with 228, and Iron, fourth with 156 with 19 events to come on Sunday.
At the end of Sunday’s race programme, London Roar remained top of the table with 534.5 points, with Cali Condors second with 474.5, LA Current third with 438.5, and Team Iron, fourth with 324.5.
Overall, the trio of Energy Standard, London Roar, and Cali Condors have seven points each from two of three semifinal match days and are almost certain of being in the four-team final while fourth-placed LA Current has six points.
The quartet of Toronto Titans (five), Aqua Centurions (three), DC Trident (three), and Team Iron (two) complete the table with one matchday left for each team.
Four points are awarded to the overall matchday winners, three for the second spot, two for the third, and one for the fourth.
Winner of a gold medal on Saturday as part of the London Roar 400 metres freestyle relay quarter, and a silver in the 400 metres medley relay, Carter returned on the second day and won bronze in both the 100m freestyle and mixed medley relay events.
First up, in the second event on the day, Carter touched the wall in the men’s100m freestyle in 46.64 seconds for the bronze after being second at the halfway stage with a 22.32 split.
Finishing ahead of Carter was teammate, Australian Kyle Chalmers in 45.70 while LA Current’s Maxime Rooney just edged out the T&T swimmer for silver in 46.63 seconds.
In the Mixed 4x100 medley relay event, Carter (50.16) swam the first-leg followed by Ross Murdoch (57.85), Marie Wattel (57.39), and Emma Mc Keon (50.73) for the third spot in 3:36.13 minutes to trial Cali Condors (3:33.79), and LA Current (3:35.90).
In Saturday’s 400 freestyle relay, Chalmers (45.53 seconds), Katsumi Nakamura (46.63), Zac Incerti (46.49), and Carter (45.90) won in a combined three minutes, 04.55 seconds, the fastest time of the season.
Carter’s former team LA Current took silver in 3:06.15 while Cali Condors got bronze in 3:08.19.
In Saturday's 20th and final event of the day, Carter swam the anchor–leg in 45.86 after teammates Guilherme Guido (49.20), Sam Williamson (58.05), and Chalmers (50.03) for silver in the men’s 4x100m medley relay in 3:23.23 minutes.
This time, Cali Condors moved up from sixth after the first-leg to take gold in 3:22.44 while LA took bronze in 3:23.33.
In the men’s 50m freestyle final, Carter had to settle for joint fifth spot with Team Iron’s Thom de Boer in 21.09 seconds, only ahead of Cali Condors’ Jesse Puts (21.26), and LA Current’s Maxime Rooney (21.52).
Carter and London Roar still had reasons to celebrate in the event as his teammate, Australia Chalmers won gold in 20.97, his third win in the event this season to beat LA Current’s Kristian Gkolomeev (21.00) and Cali Condors’ Olympic champion Caeleb Dressel (21.04) to second and third respectively, while Iron’s Maxim Lobanovszkij was fourth in 21.08.
Carter and London Roar will complete their schedule on Match Day Five carded for November, 25 and 26 at the same venue against Energy Standard, LA Current, and DC Trident, while Match Day Six will feature Cali Condors, Titans, Aqua Centurions, and Iron on November 27 and 28.
