Cougars' pair of Dylan Woodruffe and Kaiyin Morris took the top two spots in the Boys Under-13 80 metres Hurdles at yesterday's opening day of the NAAA National Juvenile Championship at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo.
After smooth performances in the earlier preliminary rounds, Woodruffe and Morris, coached by a knowledgeable Kelvin Nancoo, did not disappoint in the finals later on in the day, by sweeping the gold and silver medals respectively with time of 13.88 seconds and 14.67 seconds. Abilene's Antonio Smith prevented a total sweep of the four top spots available for the Cougars runners, by taking the bronze in 14.74 seconds, as another Cougars ace Khaliff Danglade secured fourth.
In the girls u-13 60 metres hurdles Mahalia Williams of PFNJ returned a quick time of 12.11 seconds to claim the win and the resulting gold medal. The PENJ runner was out of the blocks in a flash and never stopped until the finish line. She was followed in second by Odika Simmonds (FAS) and third Janae Thomas (PFNJ) in 13.11 seconds.
The boys u-13 400m final was gobbled up by Kyle Williams of Burnley, posting a time of 57.82 seconds for the gold. He held off challenges by Memphis Jumario Russell and Ben-Israel Bannister, both settling for the silver and bronze medals in 58.55 and 1:01.58 seconds respectively.
In the girls equivalent, there was no stopping Cougars Janika Jordan who stopped the clock at 1:02.78 seconds for the win. Her colleague Kayleigh Forde claimed the runner-up prize and Abilene's Amaya Mitchell was third.
